Transforming Young Lives: Sisters of Mary in Sao Paulo, Brazil

The Sisters of Mary Sao Paulo Brazil operate two impactful programs for children from low-income families with care and compassion.

In 2009, the Sisters opened a daycare center for young children whose parents struggle to afford daily childcare and food. In 2012, they launched a free elementary school that now provides quality education for children in grades 1 through 5. These programs offer children in Brazil a safe, nurturing environment and a solid foundation for a brighter, more hopeful future.

The elementary school operates on a half-day schedule to serve two shifts of students, doubling its reach in the community. Children study essential subjects like math, Portuguese, geography, history, and computing, preparing them for their future.

Each school session includes a nourishing meal and a snack, helping children focus and learn without the burden of hunger. For many families, these meals are the only reliable source of daily nutrition their children receive.

The daycare also plays a critical role in empowering mothers. While their children are cared for, they can work to support their families.

The daycare run by the Sisters of Mary in Sao Paulo, Brazil helps young mothers work and support their families with dignity. While in daycare, children play, learn, and grow in a safe, loving environment under the Sisters’ dedicated care. They receive three meals a day, plus milk when funds allow, giving them the nutrition they need to thrive.

This vital work is only possible through the generosity of people like you who believe every child deserves a strong start. With your support, the Sisters of Mary can continue transforming lives through education, care, and opportunity.
