Meet Sister Margie Cheong

Board Member and Treasurer

Sister Margie Cheong is a member of the Sisters of Mary from South Korea. For over 40 years, her life has been defined by a motherly devotion to the world’s most vulnerable children. Her vocation is a humble response to a calling to provide a “home for the children,” ensuring that those born into poverty are given dignity, education, and spiritual care.

Sister Margie’s missionary journey has been a testament to the international spirit of her congregation. She has spent decades traveling where the need is greatest, serving for many years in the provinces of the Philippines and across Central and South America. In these regions, she lived and worked within the “Boystowns” and “Girlstowns” operated by the Sisters of Mary, witnessing how God’s providence can transform young lives.

Today, Sister Margie continues this mission in Dodoma, Tanzania. Her daily activity is a labor of love; she focuses on the management and assistance of the Boystown, ensuring the community is a place of growth and safety for hundreds of boys. Whether she is coordinating the maintenance of the mission’s facilities or reaching out to families in remote villages, she approaches every task with a heart full of gratitude.

The true strength of Sister Margie’s service is found in the quiet moments spent in the chapel. It is there, in prayer before God, that she finds the grace to be a motherly figure to so many. She does not view her 40 years of work as a personal achievement, but as a continuation of the spiritual legacy of her congregation’s founder, Venerable Aloysius Schwartz.

Sister Margie’s life is one of joyful simplicity. From her roots in Korea to her years in the Philippines, South America, and now Africa, her focus remains the same: to find happiness in serving others and to ensure that
every child she encounters knows they are truly valued and loved.
