Featured in Legatus: A Navy Veteran’s Pilgrimage to Chalco

By Andy Lewis

Legatus recently published a moving reflection by Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis, USN Ret., about his visit to Girlstown in Chalco, Mexico.

In the article, Admiral Lewis reflects on his years of Navy service and the unexpected connection he saw between the Chief’s Mess and the mission of the Sisters of Mary. At Chalco, he witnessed discipline, servant leadership, faith, and love lived out each day by the Sisters and the girls in their care.

His testimony offers a powerful outside perspective on the Sisters’ mission. He describes a place where high standards and deep love work together to restore dignity, form character, and help children build a path out of poverty.

We are grateful to Legatus for sharing this reflection and for helping more people encounter the work of the Sisters of Mary.
