SAFETY
Too often, poverty is associated with risk and vulnerability. Violence, insecure housing, and inconsistent nutrition and health are frequently realities for our children. We pray that all children can be protected from these cruel realities.
BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. DO NOT BE AFRAID OR TERRIFIED BECAUSE OF THEM, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD GOES WITH YOU; HE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU.
DEUTERONOMY 31:6
PARENTS
We pray that parents, struggling with many of the same obstacles our children face, have the strength and courage to be able to guide them and find them a path out of poverty.
START CHILDREN OFF ON THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO, AND EVEN WHEN THEY ARE OLD THEY WILL NOT TURN FROM IT.
PROVERBS 22:6
CHILDHOOD
So many little ones are unable to truly be children. Many work to help support their families or parent younger siblings while their parents work. We pray that all of them are able to experience the joys of childhood.
AND HE SAID: “TRULY I TELL YOU, UNLESS YOU CHANGE AND BECOME LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN, YOU WILL NEVER ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. THEREFORE, WHOEVER TAKES THE LOWLY POSITION OF THIS CHILD IS THE GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. AND WHOEVER WELCOMES ONE SUCH CHILD IN MY NAME WELCOMES ME.”
MATTHEW 18:2
EDUCATION
The Sisters of Mary know that education is a pathway out of poverty. We pray that our children are able to gain both skills and spiritual knowledge at Girlstown and Boystown to break the cycle of poverty.
