In 2019, the Sisters of Mary opened Kisarawe Girlstown, their first school in East Africa. Now the Sisters are able to care for 900 of the poorest young girls from throughout the country and give them access to a quality education and the chance of a brighter future
For the first time, the girls have access to good, regular meals and nutrition, a safe place to sleep, healthcare and a quality education which will help them to find work. They are studying a full curriculum of subjects including English, Swahili, geography, history, biology, chemistry, physics, civics, agriculture and PE.
The girls have the opportunity to enjoy the comforts of a proper childhood, making friends, playing sports, having fun and discovering new interests and hobbies. Also, they are receiving vocational training in skills needed by local industries including industrial dressmaking, bread and pastry production, as well as information and computer studies. This gives the girls a solid foundation and opens them to more opportunities once they graduate.
Thanks to the hard work of the Sisters of Mary and the support of their generous donors, these young girls have the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and are given the hope of a promising future.
