Meet Sister Margarita

Secretary General, Sisters of Mary | Board Member, WVC

Born in Mexico in 1973, Sister Margarita Campos Abeja discovered her vocation early in life—a calling to serve the poor and vulnerable with compassion. In 1991, she joined the Sisters of Mary. Over the past three decades, Sister Margarita has become a pillar of the congregation’s global outreach. Now Secretary General of the Congregation, she has led missions across Mexico, Guatemala, and Brazil, helping to establish schools and programs that now serve thousands of children. She played a key role in launching new missions in Guatemala and Brazil, and served as local superior in Chalco and Guadalajara (Mexico), and Brasilia (Brazil)—guiding communities with faith and grace.

Sister Margarita’s work is deeply personal. She has cared for children from their first day at school, witnessing their transformation from vulnerable youth to confident, educated individuals. Her leadership is rooted not only in administration but in daily acts of love—listening to stories of hardship, offering comfort, and nurturing hope.

In 2023, Sister Margarita joined the Board of Trustees at World Villages for Children, where she champions the life-changing power of education and works to deepen the connection between benefactors and the children they support. She is a passionate advocate for girls’ education, equality of opportunity, and the dignity of every child.
