About Every Child’s Birthday
Every year on August 15, more than 20,000 children in the care of the Sisters of Mary celebrate Every Child’s Birthday. For many, it is their first birthday celebration.
Father Al Schwartz, founder of the Sisters of Mary, began this tradition in the 1980s. Many children entering the Sisters’ care did not know their birthdates or had never experienced a birthday party. Father Al chose August 15 as their shared birthday because it is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Mary.
Children across the Sisters’ schools in six countries enjoy a day of games, sports, cake, ice cream, and celebration. Each child also receives a personal gift, often clothing, shoes, school supplies, or another essential item.
For children who have spent their early years facing poverty and hardship, a birthday celebration was often out of reach. Every Child’s Birthday shows each child that they are known, loved, and worthy of celebration.
Your support makes this joyful day possible. Will you make a gift today and help give a child a birthday they will never forget?
