Sisters of Mary’s Life-Changing Care at Tegucigalpa Girlstown Honduras
Upon witnessing the extreme poverty facing many children in Honduras, the Sisters of Mary founded Tegucigalpa Girlstown Honduras in 2012. In February of that year, the Sisters welcomed the first 80 girls from some of the country’s most underserved communities.
Today, Tegucigalpa Girlstown Honduras has the capacity to care for 780 girls, offering them food, shelter, and a complete education. The girls receive a middle and high school education, helping them break the cycle of poverty through education and opportunity. Each day, the girls are provided with three nutritious meals, full healthcare, and emotional support in a safe, loving environment. They are also encouraged to explore their interests through sports and other extracurricular activities that support personal growth and confidence.
Preparing for the Future at Tegucigalpa Girlstown Honduras
At Tegucigalpa Girlstown, girls receive vocational training in dressmaking, culinary arts, English, and advanced computer skills. These subjects align with local job markets and give students practical knowledge to help them find work after graduation. Many girls go on to earn university scholarships, opening the door to even greater opportunities beyond high school.
The children arrive with nothing—but through the generosity of donors, each girl receives everything she needs to succeed. They are given nutritious food, clean clothing, school supplies, and the chance to build a better future with dignity and hope.
