Empowering Girls at Zona 13 Girlstown Guatemala
In 1998, the Sisters of Mary welcomed the first group of students—both boys and girls—at the newly built Children’s Village in Guatemala. Today, Zona 13 Girlstown is home to 1,000 young girls, offering them a life-changing opportunity to break free from poverty.
Girls aged 11 to 18 receive a comprehensive education and vocational training. Their academic program includes English, math, social studies, chemistry, physics, biology, arts, music, and physical education. To prepare them for the workforce, they also study business administration, bookkeeping, dressmaking, computer maintenance, and electronics. These practical skills open up real job opportunities once they graduate.
A Safe and Supportive Environment at Zona 13 Girlstown Guatemala
At Zona 13 Girlstown Guatemala, girls receive more than just an education—they’re given a safe and nurturing environment where they can truly flourish. They form close friendships, enjoy sports, and take part in hobbies and creative activities like soccer, basketball, hockey, dance, and choir.
In 2008, the Sisters of Mary opened a daycare center near the school to serve children aged 3 to 5. It provides a safe space to learn and play while their parents work. A medical center on site also offers care and support to the girls and members of the local community.
All of this is made possible through the generosity of people like you. Every child deserves a strong start in life—and with your support, we can continue to bring hope, care, and opportunity to those who need it most.
