Dodoma Boystown: A New Beginning for Boys in Tanzania
In Tanzania, poverty and limited access to education continue to impact the lives of countless children. In response to this need, the Sisters of Mary expanded their mission to Dodoma to serve the country’s poorest boys.
Thanks to the generosity of the Archdiocese of Dodoma, the Sisters were gifted 12 hectares of land to build a new school. In 2022, the Sisters held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially begin construction. By 2023, the school welcomed its first students, and by 2025, the first school building was completed and inaugurated. This facility can eventually accommodate up to 1,000 of the region’s poorest boys.
Today, 368 boys in Form 1 and Form 2 are already being cared for by the Sisters of Mary. These boys—who come from extremely poor families—now live in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where they receive everything they need to grow and thrive. This includes quality education, nourishing meals, clothing, medical care, and spiritual guidance.
Thanks to generous donors like you, the boys are also learning valuable technical and vocational skills to prepare them for future employment. These practical skills, combined with their academic education, give them a real chance to break free from the cycle of poverty and improve life not only for themselves but for their families as well.
Dodoma Boystown is more than a school—it’s a place of hope and transformation. It reflects the ongoing mission of the Sisters of Mary World Villages for Children: to care for the poorest of the poor and empower them through faith, education, and love.
With your continued support, we can reach even more boys in need and build a brighter future for generations to come in Tanzania.
