When Jerald was in 4th grade, his father had an accident that prevented him from continuing to work. Overnight, his life and those of his family members changed. His brothers were forced to leave school in order to help support their family and care for their father. One sibling worked in a bus terminal. Jerald collected and sold bottles and plastics after school. They were struggling just to get by.
Then the Sisters of Mary offered Jerald a place in Boystown. In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jerald describes the impact that the school had on his life. He describes the patience of his teachers, the love he has for the Sisters, the generosity of our benefactors, and the sacrifice of his parents. “And so we saved a special place in our hearts for each of you where we shall sing songs of gratitude our whole life through. Thank you very, very much.”
